Dandiya is Just Around the Corner

It is during Navaratri that Dandiya comes to its full form in India! Mainly in the west. Though Dandiya is a traditional dance of Gujarat, during Navaratri it is grandly celebrated in Mumbai, popularly known as Dandiya night, where people, irrespective of their religion come together in traditional dandiya clothes and dance the traditional dance of Dandiya with music.

Schools, colleges and private associations organize these events in the City. It is before this traditional Hindu festival that many dance classes are organized that are specially focused on Dandiya. This event is also a way of meeting new people and sharing a bond with your friends and family in this jovial festival.

People dance in colorful clothes with Gujarati music and with bamboo sticks in their hands. But for all those hippies who think they are too cool for Dandiya, clubs in Mumbai have organised events where Dandiya is modernized with modern music, hip hop moves and probably in party clothes.

Dandiya/Navaratri events take place from 8-16th October 2010. But the major public events take place only on 7th or 8th October. Don’t miss this event, it damn fun.
