Bandra Fair Irregularities Move HC

The once a year affair that happens in the queen of the suburbs organizes the Bandra Fair in commemoration of the feast of Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus Chirst. It is an auspicious day for catholics all around Mumbai and it drives hordes of devotees and followers to the weeklong extravaganza. While many do celebrate the festival that attracts nearly 80,000 to 1Lac visitors a week, there are reasons for citizens to be upbeat about the same.

Lilian Pais, a resident of Bandra and local of where the fair is organized has filed a petition against the sprawling of hawkers and kiosks that occupy the roads through the entire week. Irrespective of the fact that the area is a no hawkers zone, everything seems to go haywire for seven weeks. Last year, the number of hawkers that occupied the streets were tremendously large and they slowly began eating their stalls into buildings and residential apartment complexes. This year, the Bandra Fair is scheduled to begin September 12th and local residents are doing all that they can so as to ensure that they can get the desired results that they have wanted. The petition that was filed to the HC was received by Justice S C Dharmadhikari and he has asked the BMC to file a formal response by September 1st.
